Jan 01,  · The Pogues’ debut album, Red Roses for Me, wasn’t the band’s ultimate statement – that would come with the next year’s Elvis Costello-produced Rum, Sodomy and the Lash – but it resonates as more than a blueprint. Both a punk-fueled plunder of Irish music and culture and an assertion that Shane MacGowan and friends’ racket was very much in the tradition, Red Roses .

What set the Pogues apart from any number of other energetic Irish traditional bands was the sheer physical force of their performances, the punky swagger of their personalities, and Shane MacGowan's considerable gifts as a songwriter. The Pogues play this. It’s on Red Roses for Me. They play the C part quite differently though. The Slide Dingle Regatta was made famous by O’ Riada & The Cheftians It was a mix up from two other tunes the first part is a very well liked slide played a lot around North Cork. there is a great version of the Dingle Regatta on Seamus.
