Sky Larkin clearly know nothing but work, dogged application and, yes, heartache. Motto is, deep down, so good because it shows there are no shortcuts. Success takes graft, experience and expansion of horizons. Now eight years into their career, the band’s time should come.

While still plenty noisy and messy-headed, Sky Larkin sound their most organized on Motto, and the deeper focus they apply to their energetic sounds is what makes the end results work better than any of their previous albums.

Added Sep 11, Motto is the third album by Leeds trio Sky Larkin on Wichita Recordings. Recorded with long-term collaborator, producer John Goodmanson (Girls, Sleater Kinney, Los Campesinos!) in Seattle, Motto showcases Sky Larkin’s unshakable ability to conjure immediately satisfying, vibrant indie rock.
  8. Nara says:
“I know there’s potential” was how Katie Harkin introduced her band’s second album Kaleide, around three years ago. And it’s that ‘p-word’ that seems to have defined Sky Larkin over their career so far – so much promise, some inspired bursts of genius, but lacking that certain something which could propel them to the next level.
